Our Beliefs

The Word of God. The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, was written by men who were inspired by God through the Holy Spirit. It is without error and therefore trustworthy as the final authority in faith and life. (Isaiah 40:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21)

God the Father. An infinite personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 48:12; Ps. 95:3,6; Is. 40:21-26; Ps. 139:1-12; John 7:37,38)

The Trinity. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:28; Matthew 28:18; John 1:1)

Jesus Christ. We believe in Jesus Christ, whose ministry on earth included living a perfect, sinless life, His teachings, service and miracles, and dying as a redeeming substitute for our sins. After being buried, He was bodily resurrected and ascended to the right hand of the Father, where he now serves as our perfect high priest, through whom we have access to the Father, and as our King, who will one day return in power and glory to judge the living and the dead. (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 1:3; John 1:14; Acts 2:29-36; Galatians 3:13; Hebrews 4:15, 10:19-22; Philippians 2:6-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; 1 Timothy 2:5)

The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, whose present ministry is convicting us of our sins, and who indwells the Christian for the purpose of comforting, teaching and empowering the Christian to lead a godly life. (Ezekiel 36:27; Matthew 3:11; John 14:16-17; John 16:8; Acts 1:8)

God’s Sovereignty. We believe in the sovereignty of God in all matters, including salvation. We believe that scripture clearly teaches the election of man (Ephesians 1:4-5; Acts 13:48; John 6:44). However, we also believe that we are responsible to live out our faith and to take the good news of the gospel to others (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 2:9). We see biblically and in practice that when these truths are handled with grace they bring a high view of God and a love for each other.

Man. Man was created in the image of God. We believe that man was tempted by Satan, fell under the influence of sin, became disobedient to God and was helpless to restore himself. (Genesis 1:26-28; John 3:15-17; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-21; 1 Corinthians 3:5-10; 1 Corinthians 16:8)

Salvation. Salvation is only by grace, not by works, and is received by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, thereby permitting us to be reconciled to God. We believe that faith is evident by the fruit of the Holy Spirit, denying yourself, taking up your cross, following and treasuring Jesus, and obedience. (Mark 8:34; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 2:8-10; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10, 13)

Eternal Life. We believe in the resurrection of both those who believe in Jesus Christ and those who do not believe; those who believe to eternal life with Christ and those who do not believe to eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. (Job 1:6; Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 22:3; Ephesians 6:11-12; Revelation 20:10)

The Church. We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and all born again persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a body of believers in Jesus Christ who have a credible profession of faith, and have associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that the calling of the church is to be the very presence of Christ in the midst of the world, standing as a testimony of His life and character. We believe that the testimony of Christ’s life is seen most fully in the corporate expression of His life that is the church, and that when God calls people unto life with Himself He necessarily calls them into fellowship with other believers as well. (Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 5:25-27; I Corinthians 12:12-14)

Ordinances. The Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: water baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that baptism signifies and symbolizes Christian life begun. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death and signifies Christian life continued. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4)
